Author/Illustrator:  Margie Tweedie

Margie TweedieHi, I’m Margie and I have lived on the northern beaches of Sydney for most of my life.   I am married with 3 wonderful children and an eccentric dog.   I loved art at school and have always enjoyed drawing and creating.  I followed my love of art after school with tertiary studies in acrylic and watercolour painting.  I am always creating something whether it be designing greeting cards, painting canvases or watercolour artworks, mosaics and decoupage pieces..

I am actually a trained nurse by profession, having trained at St. Vincents, Darlinghurst, however, apart from doing community nursing and surgery work for many years I stopped to pursue my more artistic side.  This is when I created my own business  Margan Tile Design  - which I have had for 14 years.

I had also worked with pre-school kindergarten children for several years which was lots of fun.  I  very much enjoyed their energy and their innocent imaginative minds. When my children were pre-school age  I decided to use my artistic talents to write and illustrate some children’s books, two of which I wrote and illustrated at that time but due to life circumstances did not quite finish them.

Later  Megan asked me to illustrate her book The Adventures of Saxon – It’s Cool to be Different which we published together under Toy Box Publishing in 2010.  I then resurrected my two unfinished books and also published them and they are also available now as ebooks.

My favourite medium is watercolour pencils and ink.  I feel that the stories come to life with the colourful and bright pictures this medium helps to create that delight children’s imaginations.  I always try to add a touch of humour to my illustrations, it keeps the readers and myself amused.

I have really enjoyed creating these books and hope they bring some pleasure and joy to all who read them.

Happy reading.
